Simple Wisdom Tip #75: Say “No” More Often

When I finish reading a book that I like, I often type up the parts I underlined that are most meaningful to me.  This is a wonderful practice.  I was reviewing my notes from 15 Secrets Successful People Know About
Time Management by Kevin Kruse.  He offers “a one-word magic spell that will instantly free up space on your calendar in the future”, then quotes Steve Jobs who said, “Focusing is about saying no.”

Guess what?  People who routinely say “no” to requests for their time report higher levels of happiness and energy.  We mistakenly think we’ll be less busy in the future than we are in the present.  Not true!  We all do this; in fact, I have commented on this previously.  People should guard their time like they do their money.  It’s more valuable.  And, you don’t need to give an explanation for saying no, just say it.  Try this for a month and see what happens.
